Commissioned as a Video Letter for Milan’s Festival of Letters in collaboration with The London Short Film Festival and based on the letter by Giulia Micheli ‘She would move the tree rather more to the middle’ is about the way the people we love influence and change us. It cannot be helped, and often it is a wonderful thing taking on someone else’s mind. But it can become suffocating and stifling in equal measure. Taken from ‘To the Lighthouse’ by Virginia Woolf, the title speaks to the feeling of dilution by a lover, and the need to find a way back to yourself.
Premiering in Milan in October 2014, ‘She would move the tree rather more to the middle’ played at The London Short Film Festival in January 2015 and screened at No/Gloss Film Festival 2015. It also screened at The BFI Future Film Festival in 2016 where it was nominated for Best Film (18-25) and Anna won the award for Best Director.
